Quick answer: To add 5% VAT, multiply the price by 1.05. To find the VAT inside a total, divide the total by 1.05 and subtract the result from the total.
How it's calculated
Add VAT: multiply the price before VAT by the rate. At 5%, VAT = net × 0.05 and the total = net + VAT.
Remove VAT: divide the VAT-inclusive total by 1.05 to get the net price; the VAT is the difference.
Rounding: the OMR has 3 decimal places (1 rial = 1,000 baisa). The calculator works in whole baisa, rounds the VAT half up and derives the other amount, so net + VAT always equals the total exactly.
Worked examples
- Add VAT to 1,000 OMR: 1,000.000 × 5% = 50.000 → 1,050.000
- VAT inside 1,000 OMR: 1,000.000 − 1,000.000 ÷ 1.05 = 47.619
